The Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is one of the finest examples of countryside in England and Wales, an exceptionally attractive area around the rivers Tamar, Tavy and Lynher, famous for its mining heritage landscape.
The AONB status aims to conserve and enhance that which makes it special – the flora and fauna, geology and landscape features, and the archaeology and architecture that are linked to our settlement on the landscape. The modern social and economic needs of the local community are also important. Achieving ‘sustainable development’ in the AONB requires very special attention to detail, and so there are additional planning controls in place that our Neighbourhood Plan must respond to imaginatively.
Therefore the Calstock Parish NDP must take into account Cornwall Local Plan policies on the AONB and its settings, (Policy 23 in particular), and the guidance in the Tamar Valley AONB Management Plan. These are linked to below.
A team of dedicated staff and volunteers run projects and coordinate work to protect the Valley. For more information see their excellent website here: ‘Hidden Depths from the Tamar Valley’Follow us...
