The Neighbourhood Planning Strategy Board is made up of volunteers drawn from the local community and organisations, along with Parish Councillors, supported by the deputy Parish Clerk, Clare Bullimore, and consultant Steve Besford-Foster.
A few lines from each on their interest in the Plan and background follows:
Kate Latham has lived longer in the Tamar Valley than anywhere else in her life. She moved here in 2003 and since then has explored the valley on foot and and by bicycle. She values it and loves returning to it when she has been away. Kate knows that for places to keep vibrant they may have to change and that we cannot simply preserve the valley in aspic. Contributing to the Calstock Parish Neighbourhood Plan helps to ensure that any future changes fit with what the whole community needs and are based on consultation and thought – not simply whim.
Clive Frederick-Preece has lived in Gunnislake for nearly 30 years. He has two boys who have attended local schools and Plymouth University. Clive is keen that the local environment be protected in the Tamar Valley, whilst enabling adequate housing and services for resident’s families.
Sylvia Bonsey moved into the Tamar Valley with her family in 1984, while teaching Sciences at Launceston College. Later, with the children away at University and beyond, Sylvia and her husband travelled for several years including across the Atlantic, on a boat they built in Calstock boatyard . In their travels they found nowhere more special than Calstock Parish and now they hope the Neighbourhood Plan will guide planning decisions for the good of all those who live here – especially giving a voice to those less well off, the young, the old and including those who feel that no-one is listening, son together we can build an even better place to live.
Jean Miller is a retired Early Years Teacher and tutor for the Pre-school Playgroups Association. On moving to Harrowbarrow in 1984 she was secretary of the ‘Friends of Harrowbarrow School’ for two years before taking on the role of secretary of Callington School PSA. Jean has supported Harrowbarrow & Metherell Community Association since 1985 and now its secretary and chair of the newsletter team (HAMLET). Jean enjoys the arts and history, and belongs to a number of walking groups and has had great fun learning about parish’s heritage. She joined the Neighbourhood Planning Strategy Board representing Calstock Footpath Society and Harrowbarrow & Metherell Community Association.

Steve Besford-Foster worked in local government planning in south east England before joining the former Caradon District Council, where he was Director of Services. After a spell as the Localism Manager for Cornwall Council he set up a small consultancy to help local people create Neighbourhood Plans. Steve is enthusiastic about Neighbourhood Plans, seeing them as the first real opportunity for many years for communities to develop their own local planning vision and see it actually delivered.Follow us...
